How to Backup Xbox 360 Games

You can create your backups either on the hard drive of your Xbox or onto a separate hard drive, like the one on your computer. There are a few steps for either method, and it may be a bit frustrating while you are doing it. But just continue, and you will get it to work. Make sure to read the instructions first to make sure that you have all the hardware and software that you will require before you start, as there is nothing more frustrating than having to stop halfway through due to something being missing.

Creating a backup Xbox 360 game on the Xbox hard drive:

  1. Put the software "DVD2XBOX" onto the Xbox
  2. Open up the program, and set a game disk into the game console. Go into the settings by pressing the white button on the controller, and enable both the F and G drives.
  3. Press the A button on the controller when you see the "DVD: Xbox Software" message on your screen. Choose on of the drives and the "games" subdirectory to backup Xbox 360 game to, and then press A.
  4. Press start to get the copying process going. Once finished, you will get a confirmation screen and you can exit.

Creating a backup to your computer Hard Drive:

  1. Connect the console to your PC. Create an FTP window on your computer and then use that to copy the games over.
  2. Convert the files into ISO files. You can get free software such as ISO or Qwik for this purpose.
  3. Burn the file onto a CD or DVD to create your backup.

If you feel that this is too difficult, you can purchase a Xbox 360 transfer kit which should work a little bit easier in regards to backing up your game.

A couple notes to be aware of when you are getting ready to backup Xbox 360 game.

1. Make sure that the Xbox hard drive has lots of free space before you attempt to create a backup.

2. A backup disk will not work without installing a mod chip into your Xbox console. This can be expensive and difficult, but it will void your warranty and prevent you from being able to use Xbox Live.

3. The destination drive must be larger than the source hard drive you are copying from.
