Upfront websites pay you a lump sum. Then you never make money off that article again. This is great if you need money right now.
Residual income simply means that you write articles now but don't get paid right away. Instead, you are paid according to how many people view your article and click on the ads surrounding it. This means you don't get paid upfront. It's definitely not a way to make fast money. But you will continue to make money from your article months and years from now.
Building residual income sources will ensure that you are still making money even on the days when you don't--or can't-write. The earning potential is almost always greater over the long term from writing for residual earnings. Write enough of these articles and you will be earning lots of money every month. But if you need money now, which way of writing online is best? After research I have concluded that the best way to make money writing online is to use my method of combining both types of online writing.
Begin writing 80% of the time for upfront payment websites and 20% of the time for residual payment websites. Over time you will gradually build your residual income stream and need to rely less and less on upfront articles to generate income. So that percentage will gradually reverse itself over time. After a year, you will be writing 80%-100% of the time for residual payment websites and 0-20% of the time for upfront websites.
- Step1
Decide how much time you have to write each day and make a writing schedule. Schedule blocks of time for writing for residual income sources and for writing for upfront websites.
- Step2
Use writing websites that pay upfront to generate income right now. In the beginning, you will not have enough residual income sources to earn enough money right now to pay for current expenses. So the majority of your writing will be for those writing websites that pay upfront. But these websites only pay you when you are writing. Your eventual goal will be to build up residual income articles that pay you even while you sleep, eliminating your dependence on upfront websites to earn money. So for now, most of your writing, about 80%, will be for upfront websites so you have a stream of income while you are building your residual income sources.
- Step3
As the months pass, your residual income stream will be building slowly. As articles mature, they will begin generating more page views and more income. During this time, you will also be building backlins to your articles and some niche websites to drive further traffic to your articles. You will need to rely less and less on upfront websites to pay you, so you will shift to 50% upfront-50% residual.
- Step4
As the first year draws to a close, you will find your residual income sources bringing in enough money that you can start concentrating on writing residual articles almost exclusively, freeing up more of your time and maximizing your writing earnings over time.
