If you are newly setting up a website you may have hit your first obstacle: should you go for a shared server or a dedicated server? The most obvious difference between them is price. Shared servers certainly do seem a lot cheaper, and unless you take a good look at the small print, it may not seem that you are getting much more for your money with a dedicated server. So take a look at the small print:
- Is your site a retail site that requires people to input their credit card details? If this is the case then a shared server may not have SSL (secure sockets layer) encryption – worth checking before you sign the contract.
- Are you aware that your site might be slowed down by association with so many other websites? Whether it is a result of too many sites slowing down the server or simply another site's poor script, your site is far more likely to be slow to load or even crash if you are on a shared server.
- Do you know what sort of content the other websites on your shared server post? If sites that deal in adult material or spam are sharing your server they are also sharing your IP address. If search engine spiders ban those sites, they may well be banning yours by association with the same IP address. Make sure you know what sites are sharing your shared server or your site could be seriously disadvantaged.
- Do you expect a huge amount of traffic once your site is launched? Of course everyone hopes that this will be the case! However, if you think that your site stands a strong chance of exceeding its bandwidth then you may be excessively penalised by being on a shared server. None of these considerations and issues is a problem if you sign up to dedicated servers by EUKHost. Dedicated servers by EUKHost mean you have control and full support when you need it. Finally, dedicated servers by EUKHost are part of inclusive great packages – call them now to find out more.
