World of Warcraft - What's it All About?

World of Warcraft, which is often referred to lovingly as WoW, is a massively multiple player online role playing game (MMPORPG), that was first created by Blizzard in 2004. However the Warcraft world has been around since 1994.

Due to the massive success of the Warcraft Series of computer games (single player and multiplayer) Blizzard had decided they were going to create a massive online platform for the game as far back as 2001 but choose to wait until the 10 year anniversary of the Warcraft series before releasing it.

World of Warcraft takes place completely online and therefore requires a monthly subscription and a copy of the game to play.

After the huge success of World of Warcraft, Blizzard released the first expansion for the online game called The Burning Crusade in January 2007 and then a second expansion in November 2008 called Wrath of the Lich King.

In 2008 the monthly subscription to this online game topped 11.5 million! It is the most subscribed massively multiple player online role playing game in the world and in 2008 held over 62% of the market for such games.

When you play the game you will understand why it is so popular.

When you first play WoW you must create a character or avatar through which you will explore the online world, battle monsters, interact with computer generated and controlled characters as well as interacting with player controlled characters.

You can even have companions now that come in the form of world of Warcraft pets!

There are only two factions in world of Warcraft namely the alliance and the horde. However there are 10 classes and 10 races to choose from - 5 classes and 5 races in each faction.

During the game you can level up your character by completing quests. You can also level up by "grinding" which means going around different locations killing monsters and getting loot.

With each level you get talent points to spend to improve your character's abilities and strengths.

There are many other fascinating and enthralling activities within the game world and it is well worth a visit.
